How much does Mac mini hosting cost?

What drives Mac mini hosting cost, Hatmac's full price table with term savings worked out, hidden costs to check with any provider, and how to budget for a team.

Mac mini hosting cost depends on more than the headline monthly price. This guide explains what drives the price, shows our full price table with the savings worked out, and lists the extra costs worth checking with any provider.

What drives the price of Mac mini hosting

Chip

Newer and higher-tier chips cost more. A Mac mini M4 is the entry point. The Mac mini M6 costs a little more, and the M5 Pro more again. Mac Studio models with M5 Max and M5 Ultra sit in a different bracket, aimed at heavy builds and large AI models.

Memory

Memory is often the factor that matters most. It decides how many simulators you can run in parallel, how large a Swift project builds comfortably, and which LLMs fit. It cannot be upgraded after purchase on Apple silicon, so a provider's memory options shape what you can do. Jumping from 16GB to 24GB is a meaningful step for both CI and AI work.

Storage

Xcode, simulator runtimes, DerivedData and model files fill disks quickly. 256GB is workable for a focused CI node that you clean regularly. 512GB gives breathing room for several Xcode versions or a handful of models.

Term length

Committing for longer usually lowers the monthly price. Month-to-month suits short projects and trials; 6- and 12-month terms suit steady workloads.

Dedicated vs shared

Some offers are virtual machines or time-shared hardware. Others give you a whole physical Mac. Dedicated machines cost more than a slice of one, but you get all the memory and CPU, full admin rights and no noisy neighbours. Every Hatmac machine is a dedicated physical Mac assigned to one customer. Our comparison of a cloud Mac vs a Mac VPS goes into the differences.

Network extras

Bandwidth allowances, extra or static IP addresses, specific IP regions and private networking between machines can all be priced separately by providers. If you need any of these from us, tell us what you need.

How much longer terms save

For the machines available month to month, here is what each term saves compared with paying monthly.

Machine6-month saving12-month savingYear on monthlyYear on 12-month term
Mac mini M4 16GB$10/mo (6.7%), $60 over 6 months$30/mo (20.1%), $360 a year$1,788$1,428
Mac mini M6 16GB$10/mo (5.9%), $60 over 6 months$40/mo (23.7%), $480 a year$2,028$1,548
Mac mini M6 24GB$10/mo (4.8%), $60 over 6 months$30/mo (14.4%), $360 a year$2,508$2,148

For the 6- and 12-month-only machines, the 12-month term compared with two back-to-back 6-month terms saves:

  • Mac mini M5 Pro: $20/mo (8.0%), $240 a year ($2,748 vs $2,988)
  • Mac Studio M5 Max: $20/mo (3.6%), $240 a year ($6,348 vs $6,588)
  • Mac Studio M5 Ultra: $200/mo (16.7%), $2,400 a year ($11,988 vs $14,388)

The pattern is clear. If you know you will use a machine all year, the 12-month term is the better deal, and the saving is largest on the Mac mini M6 16GB in percentage terms and on the Mac Studio M5 Ultra in dollars. If you are unsure, start month to month on an M4 or M6 and change term at the end of the period in your account.

What the monthly price includes

A price is only comparable if you know what comes with it. With Hatmac, the monthly price covers a whole physical Mac for your use alone, with a full macOS desktop and terminal. You install Xcode, Homebrew, CI runners or Ollama yourself, exactly as on your own machine. Our staff set up remote access for each machine, choosing from DeskIn, ToDesk, AnyDesk, RustDesk, TeamViewer, Chrome Remote Desktop, Parsec, SSH and Screen Sharing (VNC), and you see the configured methods under My Macs in your account. Support is handled through tickets in the same account, in English or Simplified Chinese.

Hidden costs to check with any provider

A low monthly price can hide costs elsewhere. Ask these questions before you commit, whoever you rent from:

  1. Setup or activation fees. Is there a one-time charge on top of the first month?
  2. Minimum terms. Is the advertised price only available on a long commitment? Can you cancel at the end of a term, and how?
  3. Bandwidth and egress. Is outbound data capped or billed per gigabyte? CI artifacts, container images and model downloads add up.
  4. IP addresses. Is a dedicated or static IP included, or an extra?
  5. Configuration upgrades. What do more memory or storage cost, and can you change later?
  6. Currency and payment. Will your card add foreign transaction fees? Hatmac checks out in USD and accepts Visa, Mastercard and Amex via Stripe, PayPal, Bitcoin and USDT.
  7. Software licences. Some remote desktop tools need a paid licence for commercial use. Check the licence terms of the tool you plan to use.
  8. Renewals. Do terms renew automatically, and at what price? At Hatmac, renewal invoices are issued before the renewal date with reminders.

Budgeting for a team

Start from workloads, not machines. List what needs to run, how much memory each job needs, and how many jobs run at once. Then map them to machines.

A worked example for a mid-sized iOS team with an internal AI tool, all on 12-month terms:

RoleMachineQtyMonthly
CI build nodesMac mini M6 24GB3$537
Inference nodeMac Studio M5 Max 36GB1$529
Total4$1,066

That is $12,792 a year. A few tips for keeping the budget accurate:

  • Mix terms. Put your steady baseline on 12-month terms and add month-to-month Mac mini M4 or M6 machines for release crunches.
  • Right-size memory. Measure peak memory during a real build before choosing 16GB or 24GB. Swapping slows builds more than a slower chip.
  • Use account credit. Top up credit to cover upcoming invoices if that suits how your finance team pays.
  • Ask for a quote. For several machines, request a multi-machine quote through the contact page.
